Childrearing matters

"What does this child need to thrive?" is the question that has inspired my career. Over the last 30 years I have helped many hundreds of children, parents and professionals to answer it. What I have learned from science and practice is that childrearing really matters! Advice and training for families and professionals Acceptance and respect for the individual are the hallmarks of my approach. I coach and train individual children and parents. I also train professionals in youth care and education to support healthy family development, by implementing the GIZ-methodology. Nationally-acclaimed GIZ-methodology I designed the GIZ-methodology over my entire career and use it with every family I work with. In 2014 the methodology was nominated for a Dutch National Youthcare Award. In 2015 it was recommended for national implementation by the three main associations for educationalists, pedagogues, social workers and psychologists in the Netherlands. Their recommendations appear in the national guideline on family-friendly decision-making. More than 2000 Dutch professionals in education and care are now using the GIZ-methodology, to decide together with families themselves what each child needs and to monitor healthy development.
