I initially chose Maguire Tax & Legal to handle my accounting needs after establishing a BV in Amsterdam, especially since they came recommended by my immigration attorney. Their communication was prompt, and they provided friendly client service, which I appreciated. However, my experience took a disappointing turn once I moved on and hired a new accountant in the Netherlands to handle my business tax affairs. It turns out that Maguire Tax & Legal had failed to inform me about a significant tax break I was entitled to as an expat who also spent considerable time working outside the Netherlands. My new accountant caught this oversight, and thankfully, we were able to retroactively file for the credit—money I would have completely lost otherwise. This error really undercuts confidence in their expertise, especially considering how straightforward this benefit seems to be for someone in my situation. If you’re looking for good communication, Maguire Tax & Legal delivers on that front. But if you need proactive guidance to maximize available tax benefits, you may want to look elsewhere. While my case was eventually resolved by a different firm, I can’t help but think of the potential losses I would have incurred had I continued working with Maguire. Based on my experience, I’m giving them two stars for their professionalism in communication—but their lack of diligence on critical tax matters leaves much to be desired.
