Meet Bas van der Poel, fondly known as Maestro, a Dutch photographer with a unique passion for capturing the beauty of decay. Born on the 5th of March 1981 in Voorburg, The Netherlands, Bas has dedicated his life to exploring the unseen or off-limit parts of urban areas and industrial facilities. His mission is to immortalize the natural decay of these spaces through his lens before they are renovated, demolished, or simply forgotten.

Bas's subjects range from hospitals and castles to manors, industrial buildings, and private houses. These locations are often not freely accessible and visiting them can be dangerous. However, Bas's commitment to his craft and respect for these spaces is unwavering. He abides by the golden rule of urban exploration: “Leave nothing but Footprints, Take nothing but Photos”.

In 2018, Bas's talent was recognized when he became the 2nd runner up in the Photomaster Awards, a prestigious portfolio competition. His work stood out among numerous submissions, further solidifying his position in the field of photography.
